Rest Day: I’m not sure what to do with my hands…

Yup, you heard it first, August 15th is National Relaxation Day! Let’s face it, life sometimes gets in the way of our rest time. Even Sunday has moved from a day of rest to a day of prep for the week to come. For those with this kind of a hectic schedule, why not take advantage of National Relaxation Day this week.
ESPECIALLY when it comes to training. Why? Did you know that a day of rest is just as important as a day of training? YUP! Your body NEEDS rest to make progress. Without rest, your body doesn’t have the chance to recovery from all the training that you do!
What do rest days do?
Without this rest you can suffer from some side effects as well.
So what should you do on your day of Relaxation?
Try sleeping in: sleep is key to any recovery program. Try shooting for 8 hours this day!
Eat the rainbow: just because you are resting, doesn’t mean that your nutrition has to as well! Keeping to lean proteins colorful fruits and vegetables, and essential fats such as omega 3s will help keep you feeling rejuvenated. Not to mention refueling your body for your next workout!
Keep hydrated: don’t forget to drink water. Your body needs this to help flush out toxins that may be stored up within your body and your muscles!

Still having the itch to do something active? Okay, okay, you can have an “active” recovery day.
You can try going for a light walk or taking a slow, relaxing yoga class.
Just don’t over do it, your body needs rest and let’s face it, you do too.
