Rule #3: Never, ever, under any circumstances say "I'll be right back." Because you won't be back.
Don’t be tricked by what you hear. It seems as if every week there is a new diet or “do not eat” that everyone is talking about. Of course, we find ourselves contemplating whether or not we should listen. It may sound like a good idea at the time, you have that party coming up in a week, you’d like to shed ten pounds in three days, or you want to detox your body and start over from a weekend of binge eating.
Well, here is the reality of it. It’s a “quick fix” for a reason. These “fads” will only work for so long before your body revolts or you fall off the diet wagon.
This is not to say that some of these fads won’t work! With proper nutrition and activity, some of these could be beneficial, with modifications.
Scary, But True Fad Diets
… that you should run from.
The Raw Food Diet
While reducing the amount of junk we eat throughout the day can have it’s benefits on your body and your weight loss. So why not go raw? Doesn’t cooking vegetables kill it’s nutrients? It can be true, that by over cooking your food can reduce some of the nutrient levels, but you also kill bad bacteria from the food as well. If you choose this diet, you’ll find yourself spending countless hours juicing, dehydrating, sprouting, blending, chopping, cutting…
This one requires you to cut out meat, dairy, sweets, caffeine, alcohol, and artificial and processed foods. You’ll be consuming more fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds. Although it has it’s benefits, your body is capable of balancing your pH levels on its own. No need to cut out foods you may enjoy. It is a strict diet and complicated.
Blood Type Diet
This is based on the notion that the foods you eat may react chemically with your blood type. Example would be type A dieters go vegetarian, type B are supposed to avoid chicken, corn, wheat, tomatoes… There is no proof that this diet actually works. So depending on your blood type, if you choose to partake, this diet can be extremely restrictive
The Werewolf Diet
During the year, you would fast based off of the lunar calendar. The “quick fix” version of this diet includes fasting on only water and juice during a full or new moon. You’re supposed to loose six pounds of water weight in a single day.The extended version starts with a daylong fast and continues with very specific eating plans for each phase of the moon. Honestly, anyone is going to loose weight from not eating, new moon or not.
The Cookie Diet
Promising you’ll loose weight from eating cookies from the Hollywood and Smart for Life Cookie Diet. Who wouldn’t want to loose weight from eating chocolate chip cookies?! You’ll be consuming between 500-600 calories a day from high protein and high fiber cookies for breakfast, lunch and any snacks. Then a normal dinner. You’ll rack up anywhere between 1000-1200 calories at the end of the day. While cookies sound great, you’ll end up restricting yourself so much you’ll over eat come dinner time. Stick to a well balanced diet and macro in a REAL cookie.
The Five-Bite Diet
Eat whatever you want, but only five bites. FIVE BITES? That’s like opening a pint of ice cream and only eating one serving. With this one, you’ll skip breakfast and eat only five bites of your lunch and dinner. We are all about smaller portions, but DAMN! Even if you take GIANT bites, you’ll only be consuming around 900-1000 calories a day.
Master Cleanse Diet
Pretty much, in short, you’ll be living off of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper mixed with water for days. Diuretic in a glass. Sounds great right? WRONG! Once you introduce food back in, your body will most likely gain the weight back. Side effects you’ll enjoy include fatigue, nausea, dizziness and dehydration. With a low calorie diet, you will also run the risk of losing muscle.
The Baby Food Diet
If your baby can survive off of the mushy stuff, why can’t you? It won’t hurt you in any way, however consuming 14 jars of baby food isn’t a way to loose weight. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to eat a low calorie dinner, but who really wants to lug around all that baby food?
Cabbage Soup Diet
The bulk of this plan is based off of consuming fat-free cabbage soup, two to three times a day. You’ll continue this for about a week with other low calories foods. Again, you’ll loose weight for lack of calories, but you’ll also walk around feeling like a balloon ready to pop. Get ready to be a “toot” machine for Halloween!
Focusing your meals on grapefruit and its juice. This diet claims to contain fat busting enzymes and will help you to loose 10lbs or more in 12 days. Some variations prevent you from eating very hot or cold foods, using aluminum pans and requiring you to space out your protein and starch meals, at least four hours apart.
Sleeping Beauty Diet
When you sleep, you don’t eat. Unless you suffer from sleep walking and nighttime eating, you’ll be loosing weight by consuming sedatives to keep you asleep for days. While you’ll probably loose two pounds or so once you wake, but you might not wake up at all; scary but true.
Yum, bugs! We are pretty sure you can figure out how this one works. You consume a tapeworm egg, let the worm eat the food you consume, and book, when you loose enough weight, your doctors will prescribe you an anti-worm medication. Simple right? You don’t have to cut anything from your diet. Guess what, tapeworm eggs can migrate to other parts of your body, causing life-life-treating problems.
The Cotton Ball Diet
Consuming cotton balls that have been soaked in orange juice, what are you, Buddy the Elf?! This diet was debuted on Youtube, in chat rooms and on Facebook. This diet deprives the body of nutrients and it blocks your intestines causing extreme discomfort. Not to mention all the bleach and synthetic fibers you’ll be ingesting. Fiber? No, the bad kind, NOT the good kind.
Believe it or not, those are REAL diets. Scary, huh?
