Did you know that there are certain foods to help boost your brain power? I know you’re smart enough, but why not keep it going?
Eat smart, be smart, should be simple enough, right?
Well did you also know that some of your favorite snacks could potentially bring your brain down with a cold? You don’t want that now do you? Yes, that’s right, certain foods can actual hinder your brain power!
So let us talk about the foods that give us a big head, shall we?
Grains like, rice, quinoa, and oats contain folate, B6 and thiamine which can enhance your memory and help you to focus. Just like everything else in your body, you need energy to function!
Full of antioxidants to boost your brain function. They may actually improve or delay short term memory loss!
Fish like wild caught Salmon give your body and your brain EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids). These can only be obtained through your diet. Salmon is rich in omega-3 which can help to improve your mood, memory, and concentration.
Did you know that they could help to protect against the kind of free radical damage to sells that occurs in dementia, especially Alzheimer’s? Full of lycopine (an antioxidant), this fruit helps to improve your brain function.
Full of vitamin C, this little fruit has the power to increase mental agility.
A handful of these babies gives your body the recommended amount of zinc for the day leaving you with enhanced memory and thinking skills. Full of omega-3 and 6 as well, keeping your mood pleasant.
With a great source of vitamin K, broccoli is known to enhance cognitive canton and improve brainpower.

So what about those snacks you’ve been eating? Think you’re making smart decisions? Well let us find out.
Added sugar found in baked goods, fruit juices, soda, ice cream and processed foods.
Several studies have show that a higher sugar intake have been linked to poor cognitive function.
Saturated fats found in animal and dairy products like cheese and fast food hamburgers.
Foods like these have been linked to poor memory and slow brain processing time. Ever feel sluggish and foggy brained after a trip at the drive-thu? Well, that explains it!
But HEY! Some saturated fats are good for you, like avocados, almonds, and wild caught salmon. Don’t stop eating those!
Fried foods in general can increase blood cholesterol levels. A study revealed that individuals with high levels of bad LDL and low levels of HDL were more likely to have a build-up of beta-amyloid proteins in their brain. That stuff can lead to Alzheimer’s and dementia!
Processed foods like packaged meats, are full of preservatives, sugar, artificial sweeteners, sodium and other chemicals.
Consuming too many of these can cause your brain to decline, especially as your get older.
Simple carbs like the ones made with white flour, cause your blood sugar to spike and crash.
Try using sprouted, stoneground, or whole grains instead.
Consuming too many simple carbs can, over time, affect the hippocampus, which is the mecca center for learning and memory.
Trans fats found in pretty much any guilty pleasure; fast foods, microwave popcorn, frosting, frozen pizza, coffee creamer, and microwave dinners.
These fats, along with partially hydrogenated oils have been linked to affect your memory and cognitive functions. They also increase your bad cholesterol and decrease the good!
